Thoughts on the comic picks of today:
Thunderbolts 164
Review - One of the series I have been following for a while and have become quite the fan of. Previously was about a jail program that put criminals on missions is now about those same criminals stuck back in WWII with a pre-frozen Cap. The team is trying to figure out whether to do nothing or blend in with the times, as they may go against a villain who may alter their own timelines if he is killed.
The book is funny and entertaining. I always recommend this book around because it allows itself to have fun.
Also feral Troll girls are entertaining.
Huntress 1
Review - I wasn't able to pick this up at the store, so I bought it digitally, and it's pretty great. Heavy on the action and little on the exposition, the protagonist goes to Italy and is busting up a female slave ring. Fast paced and smooth flowing action. I really liked it and will continue to buy the rest of this mini.
Birds of Prey 1
Review - Recommended by nagging online people, and they were right. This is a good book that flows as well. Following Black Canary and new character Sterling, they have to try to keep this target alive from invisible attackers. I guess the cover drove me away before, but the art on the inside actually is pretty nice. Again, good pick that I almost missed.
Justice League International 2
Review - This one I'm not feeling. The first issue had me curious about the team set up, but this issue kinda makes them come off as annoying and somewhat incompetent, which may be the point. Godiva for example was one of the annoying characters. I guess I hold out for one more issue to see if it gets better, but I'm not expecting much.
Static Shock 2
Review - Again, another book that I was disappointed in, after how much I liked the first issue. Besides the ugly art, it's just...weird. They casually mention how his sister has a clone and they can't tell the difference between them, a plot point that comes and goes in an instant that was nowhere in the first issue. I unfortunately will not be purchasing the next issue. Again, very disappointing in this and JLI.
And that's my comic load for October 5, 2011.
